Space of Good Hope is a postgraduate
research studio at the School of Architecture, Planning & Geomatics at the University
of Cape Town that emphasises community engagement and design in Delft, Cape
Town. The project is equally a space for learning as well as a way of learning
from place: a collective search for embedded knowledge in marginalised urban
spaces.

Opened in 2015, the Lutheran Church
Outreach Foundation Community Centre was designed by Local Studio, a
Johannesburg based architecture and urbanism practice. The building stands as
the first new-build social infrastructure project for the neighbourhood since the
1970s and anchors an ecosystem of socially engaged spatial interventions by the
organisation.
